Principal Jeff Steffens has been chosen by the Class of 2022 to deliver the commencement address next Friday as Perryville High School graduates 153 seniors.
Commencement will be held Friday, May 20 at Perry Park Center at 7 pm.
Mr. Steffens is a lifelong Perryville Pirate, graduating from PHS in 1985. After attending Southwest Baptist University to earn a degree in education, he returned to alma mater to teach Grades 5 and 6 at Perry County Middle School. He’s been a fixture on campus for 31 years, serving as both the PHS athletic director and principal.
“Usually, administrators are not selected to speak at graduation, so I’m very honored that the Class of 2022 has chosen to listen to me on their very last day at Perryville High School students,” Mr. Steffens said. “I met this group at their freshman orientation, when I welcomed them to PHS, and I have the privilege of congratulating them as they leave us.”
Mr. Steffens said he will tell the Class of 2022 that their diploma is a “golden ticket” to their future. “Earning their diploma opens the world to them,” he said. “It gives them the opportunity to learn about themselves, to understand the world around them, to dream and become whatever they want to be.”
