Five Perryville High School runners were honored during Wednesday’s meeting of the Board of Education for earning Academic All State honors. They are seniors Keturah Pyland and Kira Hagan, juniors Tegan Bishop and Ben Rehagen, and sophomore Ezekiel Pyland.
To receive Academic All State Honors, student athletes must earn a minimum 3.6 GPA during the semester in which they compete, and they must compete in a state-level series race (District Championship or State Championship), according to Coach Shadrick Shafer.
“On the women's team, Tegan Bishop achieved a 3.714 GPA this fall while senior Keturah Pyland earned a 3.867 GPA,” Mr. Shafer said. “Finally, senior Kira Hagan earned an impressive 4.0 this semester, padding her already astounding 3.993 cumulative GPA.
For the men, junior Ben Rehagen earned a 3.81 this fall, while sophomore Ezekiel Pyland posted a perfect 4.0!
“Our team averages were equally impressive. The men's complete team average (JV and Varsity combined) was a 3.30 while the women's combined team average GPA came in at 3.83! These averages also include two more perfect 4.0 semesters from junior Drew Layton and junior Lilli Franklin.
“While I've always been proud of our student athletes on the XC team, accolades such as this are a powerful reminder of just how driven and capable these kids really are,” Mr. Shafer said.
