Four Perryville High School students have received scholarships to attend the Vocal Arts Camp at Murray State University in Kentucky this summer. They are (from left) juniors Ayla Schuler, Blake Bodendieck, and Grady Warren, and freshman Riley Kemp. Ayla recently earned silver award at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Solo and Ensemble Music Contest as part of the soprano and alto sextet and for a vocal solo. Blake won silver with the octet and for a vocal solo. Grady and Riley were also part of the octet, earning silver. They are directed by Ms. Taylor Davis. The Vocal Arts Camp is a week-long camp held June 9-15 that immerses high school students in the art of vocal music. Choral music, musical theatre, pop, a cappella, and solo music will be explored throughout the week. Faculty and staff will teach a variety of classes that include musicianship, voice lessons, and a special topics music seminar. Campers will spend the week rehearsing a variety of fun and challenging music that will be presented during the Saturday morning student showcase.
