Student brochure to be unveiled March 1 at MNVM
A student at Perryville Area Career and Technology Center will be recognized Friday for designing a new brochure for the Missouri National Veterans Memorial.
The brochure designed by Kaelyn Goehman, a senior at Perryville High School, will be unveiled at a public presentation at 1 pm Friday, March 1 at the MNVM Welcome Center. Kaelyn’s parents are Melissa and Jeramy Goehman of Perryville.
“We are so proud of our Graphic Design students,” said Dan Hecht, director of PACTC. “Last month, our graphic design instructor Mrs. Alissa Ernst was approached by the Missouri National Veterans Memorial and asked to develop a new brochure for their ad campaign. Each student created their entry, and a panel of judges selected the five finalists. Each finalist gave a brief presentation, then the winner was chosen. Congrats to Kaelyn Goehman for creating the winning brochure!”
Students in Alissa Ernst’s graphic design program at Perryville Area Career & Technology Center designed brochures that were judged by a five-member panel.
The judges included MNVM Director Rae Lynn Munoz, Steve Richardet, City Administrator Brent Buerck, Crystal Jones of Perry County Economic Development, and LT Richardet and Katie Cissell of Richardet Floor Covering. The students also heard from special guest Jackie Smith, the Hall of Fame football player who has been a great supporter of Perryville and the MNVM.
Winner Kaelyn Goehman is pictured front and center with her brochure, flanked by the other graphic design students, the judges, and NFL Hall of Famer Jackie Smith.
Munoz said the brochure contest was designed to involve youth in the mission of MNVM.
“The inaugural Student Brochure Competition is a remarkable initiative aimed at engaging young minds in honoring the sacrifices and valor of our Nation's Veterans. The competition invited students to create informative and visually appealing brochures that highlight the
significance of MNVM and its mission to pay tribute to all of our service men and women and their families and provide an environment for peaceful reflection.
"The students and staff have worked so very hard, and all their efforts are truly invaluable," said Munoz. "It's truly inspiring to see the younger generation actively involved in preserving the legacy of our Veterans and ensuring that their stories are never forgotten. As we know, today's youth are our leaders and more importantly our Veterans of tomorrow. "
The winning brochure design will be professionally printed and then debuted at MNVM’s annual fundraiser, L.O.V Our Veterans in St. Louis at the Hilton Frontenac on Saturday, March 9. “MNVM’s Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers extends its sincere gratitude to all the students who participated in the competition, as well as to the teachers who supported and encouraged their students' involvement,” Munoz said.
MNVM’s Welcome Center and Museum are open 7 days a week from 11 am to 3 pm and all outdoor monuments/campus grounds are open 24/7.
