National School Lunch Week
Perry County School District 32 celebrated National School Lunch Week this week, Oct. 10-14. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom. Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week highlighted the nutritious foods available daily at District 32 schools. Cafeterias served the Top 5 Favorite Foods, as voted on by students, this week – pizza, cheeseburger and fries, grilled cheese and tomato soup, nachos, and chicken nuggets. “School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Debra Baer, director of food services at District 32. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.” So far this year, the D32 cafeterias have served 15,351 breakfasts and 41,604 lunches (in 34 days of school)!
