Students in Mrs. Leigh Ann Unterriener’s class at Perry County Middle School wrapped up their unit on American elections just in time for Election Day! “We learned about the entire election process at different levels of government,” Mrs. Unterreiner said, “from campaigning as a candidate to voting in local, state, and national elections.” The students created their own presidential campaign posters, held an election for their favorite type of candy (suckers won!), and discussed how local polling places are staffed and operate on election days. For their unit review, the students played a game called “Get Elected.” To move ahead on the game board, students had to correctly answer questions from the unit such as “What is a democracy?,” “Who is the leader of a state?” and “Who is a person elected to make decisions on behalf of others?”
