March 21 - Perry County School District 32 has received the results of asbestos testing conducted after the March 14 tornado heavily damaged Perryville High School. Some areas of the facility have tested positive for asbestos, which was expected with a building constructed in the 1950s. Additional testing was conducted today, and district leaders are awaiting results.
Until the tornado, District 32 had properly abated or encapsulated all areas of asbestos on campus in full compliance with federal law.
At this time, Perryville High School and Perry County Middle School and the surrounding grounds remain closed for your safety.
